New Couples Quiz Modes: 4 Ways to Play Sync Desires Together (2026)

We've added the most-requested changes to the Sync Desires couples quiz: new couples quiz modes so you can choose how deep you go, a way to play on a single phone, the option to write your own questions, a sample report so you know exactly what you'll get before you start, and a returning-couple discount for your six-month retest. Here's what's new, how each feature works, and how to get the most out of it.

New couples quiz modes: choose how deep you go

Until now, every couple answered every category, from gentle fundamentals to the wildest questions. That suits some couples perfectly. For others, especially early in a relationship or after a rough patch, it was simply too much at once.

Now, when you start, you pick a mode. Each one includes a hand-picked set of categories and a short, practical guide that appears with your unlocked results:

  • The full quiz: every category, gentle to wild. The widest map of where your desires overlap.
  • Gentle start: connection, affection and the fundamentals only. A low-pressure way to open up.
  • Reconnecting: for couples who want to feel close again, with a guide focused on rebuilding time and touch.
  • New relationship: get to know each other's desires early, at the pace of whoever wants to go slower.
  • Long-distance: categories that work whether you're apart or together, plus tips for planning reunions.
  • Adventurous: the gentle categories plus role play, positions and toys, without the wildest ones.

Prefer to decide for yourselves? Choose Or pick your own categories on the start form. Every category is labeled Gentle, Adventurous or Wild, so you can build a quiz that matches your comfort level. Both of you answer the same set, and your results only cover the categories you chose.

Play together on one phone

Many couples take Sync Desires side by side on the sofa, and passing a link between two phones felt unnecessary. Now, when the first partner finishes, the waiting screen offers Hand the phone to your partner.

Here's how it keeps things private:

  1. Your answers are saved the moment you finish, and they never appear on screen again.
  2. A confirmation step asks you to pass the phone before your partner's quiz opens.
  3. Your partner adds their own first name and age range, then answers privately.
  4. When you've both finished, the results show only the desires you both said yes to. Anything one-sided stays hidden, exactly as before.

If you're on different devices, nothing changes: send your partner their private link instead. You can read more about how we protect answers on our FAQ page.

Add your own questions

Every couple has things that are specific to them: a trip you keep talking about, a habit you'd love to start, something you've never quite found the words for. Now you can add up to ten of your own questions for a one-time $4.99.

Your questions appear in both quizzes as a final round called Your custom questions. They're answered and matched exactly like every other question, so if only one of you says yes, it stays private. A few tips for writing good ones:

  • Phrase them as something you'd like, for example "I'd like a weekend away with no phones".
  • Keep each one to a single idea, so a match means something clear.
  • Mix easy, fun questions with the ones that matter most to you.

Custom questions need to be added before your partner opens their quiz link, so both of you see the same set.

See a sample report before you start

It's fair to want to know what you're getting. Our new sample report shows the full results layout using a fictional example couple and made-up answers. You'll see the match counts, the compatibility score, how categories unlock, and what a quiz-mode guide looks like.

The sample makes the free and paid parts clear too. Taking the quiz is free, and you always see your match count for every category plus every match in your first category. Unlocking shows every mutual match in the categories you chose, along with your mode's guide.

How the mode guides work

Every mode now ends with a short guide written for that situation. The Reconnecting guide, for example, focuses on protecting unhurried time together and rebuilding non-sexual touch, because desire often fades through routine and stress rather than any lack of love. The New relationship guide is about setting a habit of honesty early and letting the slower partner set the pace.

The guides are deliberately short and practical, so you can act on them the same week. You'll see a preview of your guide as soon as your results are ready, and the full steps appear when you unlock your results. If you'd like to see one first, the sample report includes part of the Reconnecting guide.

Coming back later? 30% off your six-month retest

Desires and relationships change, so we suggest retaking the quiz about six months after you unlock your results. When that time comes, we'll email you a personal link. Start your new quiz from it and you get 30% off unlocking your new results as a returning couple. The discount is applied automatically at checkout. There's no countdown or pressure, and it covers one retest per couple.

Real reviews from real couples

A few days after you unlock your results, we'll send one short email asking how it went. Only couples who actually used Sync Desires can leave a review, and we check every review before it appears on the site. We never invent testimonials, and we'll only ask you once.

For therapists and educators

We've also opened an expert reviewer program. Sex therapists, couples counselors and sex educators can review our questions, quiz modes and guides and tell us honestly what to improve. We'll only ever name a reviewer after they have genuinely reviewed Sync Desires and agreed to be credited.

What hasn't changed

The core of Sync Desires is the same. Each partner answers privately. Only mutual matches are revealed, never a one-sided answer. Answers are encrypted, and you can request deletion at any time. And a match is always an invitation to talk, never consent to anything specific. If you'd like a refresher on why that matters, our guide on consent in long-term relationships is a good place to start.

Research and clinical guidance consistently point to open, honest communication as one of the foundations of a satisfying sex life. The NHS sexual health guidance and organizations like AASECT are good places to learn more, and AASECT can help you find a certified sex therapist if you'd like professional support.

Which mode should you choose?

If you're not sure where to begin, here's a simple rule of thumb:

  • Never talked about desires before? Try Gentle start.
  • Feeling distant lately? Choose Reconnecting.
  • Dating for a few months? New relationship sets a great tone.
  • Living apart? Long-distance was built for you.
  • Already open with each other? Go for Adventurous or The full quiz.

You can always come back and take another mode later. Desires shift over time, and comparing results months apart can be revealing in itself. For more ideas on starting the conversation, see our guides on how to talk about sex and improving intimacy in your relationship.

Frequently asked questions

Are the new couples quiz modes free?

Yes. Choosing a mode and taking the quiz is free, and you always get a free preview of your matches. The full results and each mode's complete guide unlock with the one-time results payment.

Can we change our mode after starting?

A mode is fixed once a quiz is created, so both partners answer the same questions. To try a different mode, simply start a new quiz.

Will my partner know which custom questions I wrote?

Your partner sees the questions in their quiz, so they'll know someone added them. Your answers to them stay private, and only shared yeses are revealed.

Is one-phone mode as private as using two phones?

Your answers are never shown on screen after you finish, and your partner answers on their own screen after you hand the phone over. Results only ever show mutual matches. If you'd rather keep everything separate, use two devices.

Ready to try it? Take the Sync Desires couples quiz and pick the mode that fits you two best. You each answer privately, and only the desires you share are ever revealed.
